3 Easy Steps to Writing a Better Blog Article

3 Easy Steps to Writing a Better Blog Article

Alright, so you’ve got your website, and set it all up. You have your “About” page filled in and maybe even a “Contact” page. All that’s left is to start writing your first article and hit “publish”!

But where to begin?

In this article, I’ll help you answer that question and get you through writing your first post!

You’ll want to read through to the end because these 3 steps will ensure your audience absorbs what you have to say!

Make It Scannable

To start, make an outline of your blog post!

Start with the title, and then on the next level of the list, write the significant points you want to make. Ideally, you want the very first point to be the most essential takeaway your readers will get.

That’s because only 16% of readers read your article word-for-word.[1] This outline, will be the headers and sub-headers we use to break our article up into scannable bits!

Once you’ve finished your initial outline, add one more level to each point by adding more minor points underneath. This is what the bulk of your content will be!

You should have an outline with the main title, some headers, and some content points underneath the headers.

The main point of your article should be the top point. Your subpoints (the headers) should be listed in order of importance.

By organizing and writing your blog this way, you can be sure your readers can absorb the information they need as they quickly scroll on their phones.

Show Us Who You Are

Now that you’ve established your outline, it’s time to format it into sentences and paragraphs.

Simply select your list and press the button in your word processor or blog management system to un-list it.

Then, fill in the missing pieces to form complete sentences and paragraphs.

However, we’re not going to write as we did back in school.

No.

We’ll write more like we do when we talk to people on social media!

That’s because when we do so, we write in a voice that sounds more like ourselves.

Writing in this way—instead of how we were taught in school—helps keeps our readers interested in what we have to say.

By being more authentic, we have more authority over our chosen niche. When our audience perceives us as more knowledgeable in our niche, our readers trust us more! [2]

Help Google See It

You’ve finally finished writing your article, and maybe you think you’re ready to hit that “publish” button.

But wait!

How do you know that once you do, anyone’s gonna see it?

By utilizing SEO strategies, we can be sure they will.

SEO—Search Engine Optimization—is a method of ensuring that people can find your article.

Think about finding the info you need for any question you have.

You probably type your question into Google and then find the content you need by clicking on one of the links that Google shows you.

Have you ever wondered why Google shows you the list of links or why it chose the order to list them?

SEO is the answer![3]

Like Instagram or Facebook, Google shows you relevant content based on a complex algorithm. And just like Instagram or Facebook, you can “hack” Google’s algorithm to make it work in your favor!

That means allowing more people to find your blog based on the keywords they use while searching for information on Google.

Ultimately, you’ll have to find and utilize the most relevant keywords connected to your blog AND your target audience.

There are plenty of websites that can help you find these keywords.

The process is easy: type in some words related to your niche and click “generate.” Within a matter of seconds, hundreds of related keywords and phrases will magically appear and be at your disposal!

Using some of these keywords throughout your article, especially in your title or headlines, makes sure your blog will show up on Google.
